This course consists of one self-directed learning module (approximately 2 hours) and two facilitated virtual sessions (4 hours each).

Course Schedule:
• Self-Directed Learning (2 hours): Completed prior to the facilitated sessions
• Day 1: 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM ET
• Day 2: 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM ET

Participants will receive instructions for accessing the self-directed learning module before the course start date.

To receive certification, participants must:
• Complete the self-directed learning module
• Attend both facilitated sessions in their entirety
• Participate using a device with audio and video capabilities

Please note that course times are listed in Eastern Time (ET). Minor adjustments may be made to accommodate participants from different Canadian time zones. Any schedule changes will be communicated in advance.

Registration closes 5 business days prior to the course start date to allow sufficient time for completion of the self-directed learning component.

Mental Health First Aid: Adults Who Interact with Youth

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an evidence-based training program that teaches participants how to recognize signs that a young person may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health crisis, and how to provide support until appropriate professional help is obtained or the crisis is resolved.

This course is intended for adults who interact with youth aged 12–24, including parents, caregivers, teachers, educational professionals, child and youth workers, foster parents, coaches, mentors, and community service providers.

Course Format

  • Day 1

    Module 2 (Facilitated)

    • 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM ET
    • 4 hours

    Day 2

    Module 3 (Facilitated)

    • 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM ET
    • 4 hours

    Before Day 1

    Module 1 (Self-Directed)

    • 2 hours
    • Completed independently by participants before attending the facilitated sessions

Participants who successfully complete all course requirements will receive a Mental Health First Aid certificate issued through Opening Minds.
