Mental Health First Aid
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Essentials equips you with practical skills to support someone facing a mental health or substance use challenge until professional help is available. The course builds confidence, reduces stigma, and enhances self-care, offering a strong foundation in MHFA principles without formal certification. MHFA Essentials is ideal for individuals, teams, and communities in any setting.
MHFA training provides the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to support a person who may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being, a mental health crisis, or a substance use crisis until professional help is available.
The practical skills of MHFA help you develop the confidence and peace of mind knowing you can support those around you, and your ability to self-care and prioritize your well-being while supporting others.
Designed to be accessible and applicable across many settings, Essentials offers a strong foundation in MHFA principles without formal assessment or certification—making it an ideal option for individuals, teams, or communities seeking meaningful, time-efficient training.

Who is it for?
Mental Health First Aid: Essentials is suitable for individuals aged 16 and older. No prior knowledge or courses related to mental health are required.
The Facilitators
Kathy is an experienced mental health educator specializing in Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), suicide prevention, and crisis intervention training. She creates engaging, inclusive learning environments where participants gain the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills to recognize and respond to mental health and substance use challenges.
Kathy’s trainings have reached more than 2,500 participants in MHFA and suicide intervention and alertness. Her experience managing Crisis Lines supporting individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts, trauma, substance use, and domestic violence provides valuable real-world context that enriches every training session. Kathy is known for making complex and sensitive topics accessible, practical, and empowering for diverse audiences.

Cancellation Policy:
Should the course be cancelled; advance notice and alternative dates will be provided or a full refund will be made.
If a participant cancels their registration the refunded amount will depend on when we are notified:
- 45 or more days prior to course date: Full refund
- 30-44 days prior to course date: 50% refund
- Less than 30 days prior to course date: Non-refundable
