ABOUT THE FACILATATORS

About Amanda:

Amanda has over 12 years experience working in community mental health and substance use. She is a Registered Social Worker in British Columbia (RSW, MSW), and has a private clinical counselling practice. She has fulfilled clinical roles including mental health clinician, prevention specialist, outreach social worker, clinical counsellor, community educator and practices holistic mental health care. Amanda practises from a strengths based and trauma informed approach, and is delighted to offer this Mental Health First Aid – Standard Virtual course for anyone in the community.

This course is an opportunity to learn more about how to support the mental health of others, while simultaneously taking care of your own mental health and wellness.

About Jen:

Experienced leadership consultant and trainer, Jen holds a Masters in Leadership and a Degree in Child & Youth Care Counselling. With over a decade dedicated to youth services, she specializes in mental health, substance use support, youth engagement, leadership development, team building, and organizational effectiveness. Currently serving as the Regional Leader at Vancouver Coastal Health, Jen leads program redesigns and supports refractory depression treatment. As a contract faculty member at Douglas College, she inspires future professionals in Applied Community Studies. Jen is an advocate for social justice, racial equity, and marginalized populations, with a proven track record in leadership, consultation, and training. Committed to empowering individuals and organizations for positive growth and inclusive development, Jen’s Masters research focused on integrating knowledge translation in youth services, particularly in the context of front-line work.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Deepen your understanding of mental health and substance use challenges with Mental Health First Aid (MHFA). In a society where knowledge about mental health is often lacking, MHFA is a vital resource offering support to individuals with emerging mental health or substance use problems until appropriate treatment is found or the situation resolves.
